Guided Diving

The diving in Dahab is mainly shore based with easily accessible reefs right on the shoreline. This means there’s no mad rush to the crowded jetty at the crack of dawn! The nearest dive site is no more than 20m from the dive centre and we can arrange diving as far North or South as you wish to go! We will always leave on time, and we will ensure you are treated as guests, and not as a tour group. We don’t carry annoying rattles to make sure you are all in line under water, and you can choose the dive sites.

We normally run two dives per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with dusk dives and night dives regularly scheduled. There is always the opportunity to do more than 2 dives a day and if you are feeling energetic this can always be arranged for you. We can also arrange early morning dives, night dives, private guides and possibly any other options you can think of!

If it’s been more than one year since your last dive, then a skills practise session is a really good idea. One of our instructors will run through some basic points and then take you on a shallow dive to practice some of the vital skills such as sharing air and buoyancy skills.

The maximum depth you will dive to will depend on your certification and experience levels. Beginners and open water divers are usually limited to 18 meters and the maximum depth for recreational diving in the Egyptian Red Sea is 40 meters. Egyptian government policy is also not to allow unguided diving, so all dives must have a qualified dive guide licensed by the authorities. Due to this we keep the ratios of divers to guides down. We can arrange private guides for you for a small extra charge if you wish it. We have a maximum group size of six divers per dive guide, although there is usually less and we will do our best to match up people of similar levels and certifications.

We are always being asked "to dive the Blue Hole". This isn't a special excursion, but rather another local dive for us. You will need to be Advanced or training to go deep. We often do this with the Canyon on the same day.

The more you book the cheaper it is per dive. 1 day diving is €44 and a 5 day dive package - 10 dives is €185.

We will also run night dives (€30), early morning dives (€15 supplement) and third dives (€20) on request.

Private Guiding is also an option for those that prefer their own schedule etc (€20 supplement per dive).

Equipment hire is €20 per day, if needed.

Thistlegorm

We run a one day boat safari to the wreck of the SS Thistlegorm on a regular basis, as this is by far the most famous and popular wreck in the Red Sea. Many divers visiting Sinai do not want to miss out on an opportunity to dive it. It is certainly a wreck that deserves more than one visit and each time you go you will surely see something different. To see the whole wreck requires more than one dive in itself.

On your dive you will be able to view the supplies the Thistlegorm carried including anti-tank mines, Lee Enfield MK3 rifles, motor cycles, Norton and Bedford trucks, Bren Gun Carriers, 2 steam engines with tenders, field generators, tyres and rubber boots!!. All these can be seen in the holds or laying close to the wreck on the sand, as is the case of the steam engine which was blown clear of the wreck by the explosion!

Thistlegorm wreck safari - inlcudes transfers, day boat, lunch, water, tanks, weights, guide, 2 dives on Thistlegorm and 1 dive at Ras Mohammed National Park.

You need to be at least an Advanced Open Water diver to dive th wreck as it is in 30m of water. If you are qualified you can order Nitrox.

€99 supplement on top of 2 dives from package, €20 for 3rd dive, €20 equipment rental if needed

Gabr El Bint

If you would like to see the best diving Dahab has to offer, come out with us on a day boat to the furthest south dive site called Gabr el Bint. We start early and travel, from the jetty, about an hour south until we reach the pristine reef. You will then do 2 dives, have a delicious lunch and you then have the option to do a 3rd dive before we travel back to the jetty. This trip includes lunch and drinks. If you are looking for something big in the blue, this trip will be your best chance!

This is a slightly earlier start to the day in order to fit in 3 dives and be back to the jetty by 4pm We need a minimum of 6 people in order to run the trip.

€45 supplement on top of 2 dives from package, €20 for optional 3rd dive, €20 equipment rental if needed

Ras Abu Galum

A diving safari that’s unique to Dahab is travelling to untouched dive sites by camel! Much of the coastline here is inaccessible to off road vehicles and the only way to reach the dive sites there is by camel or boat. Travelling by Camel is a very popular way to experience a sense of being in the Sinai. These docile animals are able to carry both you, your dive gear including tanks and food and water!

For some people the thought of a camel safari fulfils all those fantasies of Lawrence of Arabia, desert nights spent under a blanket of stars. A camel safari is the ideal way to experience diving little dived sites and experiencing just a little piece of Bedouin nomadic life. The journey to Ras Abu Gallum begins early to take full advantage of the cool morning air on the hour ride to the first dive site.

Your camel will carry all your dive kit, personal baggage and food and drink. You will be accompanied not only by an experienced dive guide but a Bedouin safari guide who will cook for you over a real fire, and provide you with not only an authentic insight into his culture but an endless supply of Bedouin tea!

We can run camel safaris to Ras Abu Gallum for as few as 2 people up to larger groups if you want a different experience for your dive club whilst in Dahab. All safari prices are charged by the day and include food and drink. 2 guided dives and an upgrade price for those on a dive package is available.

€70 supplement on top of 2 dives from package, €20 equipment rental if needed

We offer the full service from training beyond Instructor to job placement. No one else in the Middle East offers this full service, and we can ensure you get the maximum value for your allowance.

It is very important that you understand the benefits of diving out here if you claim your entitlements yourself, as once that is complete it will be necessary to discuss your choice of location with justification. Dahab and Poseidon offer perfect diving conditions guaranteeing that you will be able to dive every day and therefore ensuring your course will complete and It allows more time to be spent on developing skills as the water is on our front door step. If you specifically want to look at certain tropical marine life, by taking the naturalist add on, then this will not be possible in the UK .Costs are also lower here, with living expenses being considerably lower ensuring you do not blow your budget or require unnecessary funding.

Dahab Divesites

Dahab is the perfect place to learn to dive. We have a shallow bay on our doorstep which is perfect for practising skills. No pool-work for us. We are straight into the sea in a safe protected environment.

Located on the eastern Sinai coast of Egypt on a branch of the Red Sea called the Gulf of Aqaba you will be able to find the Bedouin town of Dahab. Dahab manages to retain a character all of its own. Surrounded by mountains, it offers a haven of tranquillity in which to shelter from the modern stresses of large resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada.

In the last few years the Egyptian government has targeted Dahab as a tourist development zone and has already helped in the establishment of a number of five star hotels. Dahab now offers all the comforts and facilities you need but still retains the laid back atmosphere it’s famous for. Dahab is based around two bays – Mashraba and El Kura. Mashraba is where you will find the Bedouin village of Assalah and the centre for the restaurants, cafes, bazaars and camps. In the centre of Mashraba bay is Poseidon Divers.

Just a few minutes drive to the south, El Kura (known locally as Dahab City because it has a post office and bus station!) is where the bigger resort hotels, including the Meridien, are situated. The ‘high street’ of Dahab curves around the Bay and can be walked in 10 minutes with a selection of restaurants and bars spread along it, allowing you to take a break (even a camel if you have the urge).

Dahab overlooks the mountains of Saudi Arabia, a mere 28km away, and the waters beyond the fringing reefs plunge to nearly 2000m, among the deepest in the Red Sea. This provides the rare opportunity of seeing pelagic and reef life coexisting a few metres from the sandy beach. As a result you can be guaranteed some of the best diving in Egypt, with the chance of diving in coral canyons or visiting the famous Blue Hole.

About Us

Poseidon Divers is a long established European owned dive school and we pride ourselves on our reputation for thoroughness and friendliness. The best part about our dive centre is the relaxed attitude towards life, which ensures that you won’t have to rush around, getting kitted up at the last moment. All our dives are guided and group sizes are limited to 6 - safety is a priority. We will not compromise our high standards of training and safety for any reason. We have mastered combining safety and fun and we are sure that you will agree! We are lucky to be based right in the heart of the main bay area in Dahab called Mashraba, which means we are a stones throw from the sea and our house reef that is famous for seahorse and turtle sightings.

Completed Open Water course with us

From a simple enquiry, to an expertly managed, flawless trip. We were picked up at the airport and again each day from our hotel. The dive centre is ideally and centrally located in Dahab and fully equipped with dive kit and facilities. I was a newby and my partner more experienced and our dives were tailored to our abilities making the dives enjoyable and safe. The team are sociable and inclusive making each person feel valued as a customer. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and make diving fun. A big shout out to Dave and Joe, two of Jonpauls team, all of whom are professional and friendly. The costs are competitive and flexible to accommodate groups, couples and families. The accommodation they offer is excellent and the service throughout is to the highest of standards. We will without doubt return. I can't recommend Poseidon Divers highly enough.
